What the heck is holistic health and why am I doing this?

Here I am. Blogging.

I giggle a bit at this because I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with social media and the internet in general (more on that down the road...), but none the less, here I am!

The world wide web has enabled us to do things as a society that our grandparents never dreamed would exist today. Although much of this "instant information" serves us well, some of our world's internet/media habits are very damaging and many of us don't even see it.

My purpose in this blog, is to share a health and wellness journey with you in the best way I know how - authentically & honestly (with a side of sarcastic humor). These 2 character attributes are ones I strive to always work towards and they are something I am proud of. I am an authentic, honest human. I want this blog to be part of the "greater good" of the internet and I hope you can hear my heart on the other end of this keyboard.

I've been through the wringer in life... I will share some of this journey with you as I go along, but for now I will just say, I understand what it feels like to experience so much emotional pain that you literally have to concentrate on just getting air into your lungs.

(Ok, and sidenote, I just finished telling my husband for the 3rd time to PLEASE LEAVE MY AREA because he keeps singing Cardi B's "I like it like that" to me and I'm LOSING IT!!!! Is this the kind of information you share on a blog? I have no idea, but anyway...)

Because of what I have been through, I have a story. Like we all do. I've already been accused that what I'm doing is "nonsense" (haha right...) by someone who knows nothing about me. This person's opinion is fine, but the way I see it, you actually can't argue with someone else's personal experience or the fact that healthy habits (ie: nutrition) are a positive life change. So with that said, I will share, and people can take it or leave it. I've already learned the life lesson that some people will hate on you no matter what, it doesn't change the human I am.

The reason I share these thoughts with you is because holistic health & nutrition isn't JUST about the food we eat. A holistic health approach targets the body, mind, heart & soul with the belief that these areas are all connected and need to be cared for, in order to achieve optimum health. For me (and my children), we are still picking up the pieces of the emotional wreckage of the past, and it has been a long, painful journey to get to where we are today. Taking the time for care and attention in these areas enabled me to cope as a single mom of 3 kids for 7 years, build a career for myself, and eventually marry my husband Randall. Had I not cared for each area, I truly believe I would be in a different place in life, wouldn't be capable of loving again, and I certainly wouldn't be writing this right now!

The American Holistic Health Association (AHHA) describes Holistic Health this way:

"Rather than focusing on illness or specific parts of the body, this ancient approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment. It emphasizes the connection of mind, body, and spirit. The goal is to achieve maximum well-being, where everything is functioning the very best that is possible."

I believe in modern medicine. I believe it saves lives. In a perfect world, I would love to see holistic medicine and modern medicine work together to treat people with integrative care.

My focus with Amplified Health & Beauty is to help people attain their health goals and see how each area (body, mind, heart & soul) play a role in optimum health & wellness, taking the whole body into consideration.

I look forward to sharing my journey, what I'm learning, and my kick-ass recipes with you and I hope you'll share your journey with me!

Bye for now...

J
